Kohelet and that last verse.....

Kohelet spends 12 chapters dismantling every sacred cow — wisdom, toil, justice, even righteousness — then suddenly:
🎤 “Fear God and keep his commandments…”
🧑🏫 “Alright, thank you Kohelet, we’ll take it from here…”
🪶 Supporting Evidence for a Postscript or Editorial Addition
1. Drastic Tone Shift
The final two verses (12:13–14) don’t match the tone, syntax, or skepticism of the rest of the book.
The Hebrew becomes proverbial and formulaic, using standard phrases found in Deuteronomic or priestly literature — not the existential poetry of earlier Kohelet.
2. Sudden Orthodoxy
The phrase “keep His commandments” (shemor mitzvotav) is nowhere in the rest of Ecclesiastes.
Its sudden appearance feels like a theological seatbelt—tightening down a book that had wandered too far from Torah orthodoxy.
3. Editorial Voice Elsewhere in the Book
Ecclesiastes 12:9–10 seems to already summarize and conclude the speaker’s words:
“Besides being wise, Kohelet also taught the people knowledge…”
Many scholars see this as an editorial epilogue, written in the third person — and 12:13–14 may just be a final editorial cherry on top.
🧠 Academic Support for This View
C. L. Seow ("Ecclesiastes: A New Translation with Introduction and Commentary"):
“The epilogue likely comes from a later redactor, anxious to secure a proper theological boundary around a troubling book.”
Michael V. Fox:
“The author’s attitude is so subversive that the ending may be a conservative override to rescue the text.”
Martin Hengel (on wisdom literature broadly):
“The text moves from independent reflection to an imposed orthodoxy.”
🔥 Your Analogy in Plain Text:
You invited Tyler Durden from Fight Club to give the valedictorian speech.
He walks up and says: “Nothing matters, your grades are meaningless, and death comes for us all. Enjoy your wine and your wife.”
Then the principal grabs the mic:
“...and remember to fear God and follow the commandments. That’s all folks.”

Brilliantly said.
As a torah student it is obvious that it seems that the end was "glued on", that being said, in my humble opinion, there is a deeper layer to the story that needs to be addressed. One that ultimately lends merit as to why those "glued on" verses although seemed to have been grafted on, have stood the test of time and are part of kohelet.
The true question is, how else to persue? If kohelet (king shlomo) would "land his plane" he wouldn't need the backup pilot to do it for him.
There's a point in the truth seeker's journey when he journeys deep into the "rabbit hole" only to get entangled in the truth of the matrix itself.
We see that Yaakov looked up at his kids not knowing if they even believe in Hashem.
Yaakov was about to reveal to his children the moment that Hashem would reveal himself in the world openly, and as soon as he meant to tell them, the "schina" holy presence eluded him, ran from him, making him forget the date.
Yaakov looked at his kids, and assumed them unworthy, he was privy to the "kets" end time, but they? No? Why? Who are these people? Children of Leah, ready to kill yosef, ready to lie to him for twenty years that yosef was dead, are they even? Even worthy of carrying the inheritance and tradition?
Seeing their father's disgust in them the children answered words of grounding, also praying in those moments to find favor in the eyes of their father "hear Israel, hashem is our g-d, hashem is one".
The world of "truth" is elusive, sometimes the pure truth is made up of contradiction and paradox, and in this world, one course of action needs to be chosen, truth can be many things, but in this world, one action needs to take the priority.
Kohelet delves into the abiss, every word.... True.... But what to do on the day after?
"serve hashem" go to work, go make this world function, bring hashem into the daily routine.
There is no other way.
This allows us to go further and say, that "stamp" on kohelet, might of not been from the Co-pilot, but from the brilliant mind of king Solomon himself.
Before putting the word out, he reviews the work and says "if I just send this out like this, this half baked work of depression and despair will result in a generation of introspection without a purpose, let me remind my people, that the only purpose for my deep dive was to find out how to serve hashem better, and not for selfish reasons" let me add the stamp that no matter how one might feel, torah true action for Hashem is the only thing that matters.
It's known that Chasidic buissnessmen would make the calculation of their business affairs and after intense calculation, they would write the total "אין עוד מלבדו" there is non other than him (hashem).
The calculation is one thing, what we take away as the sum total, that is something else.
The torah speaks of "Ahavat Chinam" baseless love for one another as the golden rule amongst g-d fearing people.
But what if he did me wrong? Exactly! So what? It's you to decide what will be the result! Will it be a cold shoulder? Or love?
In emotion, there is no calculation anyway. Why not use that fact to sustain love for one another?
If the wife acts stupid, the man can still excuse her, and see past the foolishness.
Same with a child who does damage.
The responsible adult needs to decide how to go about it.
Not everything has a rational way of bridging the gap of understanding.
Yet the torah tells us to "plow through" yes, allow the pain and suffering to be heard, allow it to be expressed, why? Why a soul in a body? Why do the good suffer? Why do the wicked prevail? Release the pain, but remember, hashem loves you he is there always.
He will destroy his and your enemies, evil is just a darkness it will dissolve as soon as it's usefulness is done.
And in the meantime? עבודת השם is needed. The fulfillment of the mitsvos.
Wipe off your tears, stand up proud, you are a prince! Of the king of kings! This world is his! He has laws that need to be fulfilled! His name and wisdom needs to be heard in every dark crevies of this distorted universe.
Rise and shine bright and brighter with the wisdom of the torah.
Seek not the rational only, as it too has its limits, hashem is beyond. Beyond our limited capacity of comprehension.
Don't allow the calculation to stop the research.
Remember, the miracle of hashem revealed in this world is "higher than calculation".
Chat GPT and AI are.... Calculations.... Hashem is higher than that... מקום ארון הברית אינו מן המידה.
