By Rabbi Yosef Edery, Sanhedrin Initiative Advisor
Today, on a Zoom call, I—along with my colleague Mr. Eliyahu Zerubavel, both Sanhedrin Initiative Advisors—met with Reverend Komba Mbawa, leader of Sierra Leone's United National People's Party (UNPP).
His people lack sufficient water, electricity, education, roads, and hospitals. The nation has 14-16 tribes and a history of 35 years of British rule that locals describe as extractive—taking resources while leaving the people with almost nothing.
Sierra Leone's Wealth (Currently Extracted, Not Benefiting the People):
The country sits on immense mineral deposits:
Diamonds & Gold: World-class deposits, mostly artisanal mining
Iron Ore: Massive deposits in northern regions
Rutile: One of the world's largest and highest-grade deposits; critical mineral for aerospace, medical devices, and advanced manufacturing
Bauxite: Key aluminum ore
Rare Earth Elements (REEs) : Including monazite, pyrochlore—essential for defense tech, magnets, and modern electronics
Lithium, Tantalum & Coltan: Critical for batteries and electronics supply chains
Offshore Petroleum: Untapped oil and gas reserves
Mining contributes over 70% of export earnings, yet most Sierra Leoneans see no return.
The colonial model—first British, now other opportunists—extracts the life force and leaves communities dry.
The people of Sierra Leone are united in opposing this extraction.
They want fair partnership, not exploitation.
Reverend Komba's Proposal:
✅ Move Sierra Leone's embassy to Jerusalem immediately
✅ Formal alliance with Israel
What He Needs from Israel:
🔹 Solar energy & Solar Schools
🔹 Water technology & Food security
🔹 Hospital infrastructure
🔹 Mining technology to process minerals locally (not just export raw)
🔹 Fair-trade partnership—technology for resources, mutual benefit
The Opportunity:
Israel needs secure sources of critical minerals. Sierra Leone needs technology to develop.
This is a fair business opportunity between nations ready to respect each other.
